Naturopathic Medical Outcomes
Naturopathic medicine has proven to be effective in many cases for preventing and treating Type I and Type II diabetes, prediabetic conditions, and diabetic complications.
Type I Diabetes
Several naturopathic therapies, including intravenous hydrogen peroxide, niacinamide, and neuropeptide injections upon diagnosis, have shown a positive effect in promoting remission, lowering insulin requirements, and increasing beta cell function. There are a few reported cases of completely eliminating exogenous insulin with the use of natural medicine. Naturopathic approaches to diabetic management also play an important role in reducing the risk of diabetic complications.
Following naturopathic protocols:
· Some recently diagnosed Type I patients may go into complete remission.
· Patients can more tightly control blood glucose levels.
· Patients can often decrease insulin requirements and reduce dependence on exogenous insulin.
· Patients can improve quality of life through the prevention of complications that can range from mild to debilitating
Type II Diabetes
Studies have shown that only about 25% of diabetic patients on oral diabetic medicine are able to achieve good (not perfect) control of their blood sugar levels. However, many patients who are treated with naturopathic medicine are able to maintain good blood sugar control without the need for pharmaceutical medicines for diabetes Type II. As with pharmaceutical hypoglycemic agents, there are always some individuals who do not respond.
Following naturopathic protocols:
· Blood sugar can begin to decrease within 2 weeks, but it may take 6 weeks before some people notice a change. Approximately 88% of people are able to lower their blood sugar levels within 3 months of continued use, based on clinical research of herbal combinations containing jambul and devil’s club.
· Patients with excessive insulin can expect about a 30% decrease in 3 months. After 2 months of daily use, most people will notice a decrease in blood sugar.
§ Fasting blood sugar should go down within 8 weeks and HBA1c values within 3 months.
Side Effects
There are no reported adverse side effects from use of naturopathic diabetic nutrient and botanical medicines.
Drug Interactions
The medicinal nutrients and herbs used in naturopathic approaches to preventing and treating diabetes balance blood sugar, so there is little possibility of blood sugar going too low when conventional drugs are used in combination with naturopathic medicines.
Weaning Off Drugs
Once patients following naturopathic protocols start to notice a significant decrease in blood sugar levels, they can consider starting to wean themselves off any prescription drugs they may be taking for their condition. Some people may be able to start weaning after 2 weeks of following naturopathic protocols, while others may be able to start after 8 weeks. It is not recommended for patients to stop their prescription drugs when their blood sugars are consistently over 150 mg/dL.
Side Benefits
Many naturopathic nutrients and herbs can help eliminate free radicals, which are largely responsible for the secondary complications of diabetes. Secondary complications of diabetes might get better while following naturopathic protocols. Vision and kidney function might improve.
